Let me give you the one-sentence versions first. Brow lamination restyles the direction and lie of your brow hairs, so the brow looks fuller and stays brushed into place. Brow tint colours the hairs, so everything you already have becomes visible and defined. Shape versus colour. Everything else is detail, but the detail helps, so here it is.
What lamination actually does
Lamination works like a tiny, gentle perm for your brows. A setting solution softens each hair, the hairs are brushed into the direction you want, usually up and across, and a second solution fixes them there. The result is that full, fluffy, "brushed-up" brow you see everywhere, made from your own hair, no makeup involved.
It's brilliant for unruly brows that grow in five directions, for flat brows that lack body, and for hiding small gaps by redirecting hair over them. The effect lasts around six to eight weeks. What it can't do is create hair where there is none: if your brows are very sparse, lamination gives you neatly arranged sparseness.
What tint actually does
Tint is a dye, developed for the delicate eye area, applied for a few minutes and wiped away. It darkens every hair, including the fine, pale, fluffy ones you can't see right now, and those invisible hairs are the secret. Most people have noticeably more brow than they think; it's just blonde. Tinting reveals it, which is why a ten-minute tint can look like someone gave you new brows.
Tint lasts three to four weeks on the hair. It suits fair brows, greying brows, and anyone tired of pencilling in definition every morning. What it can't do is change direction or add fluff: if your brows are dark but chaotic, tint just gives you darker chaos.
A quick word on shade, because this is where nerves creep in. A good tint is chosen against your hair colour and skin tone, and it always looks strongest in the first day or two before settling. If you're worried about going too dark, say so; going a shade softer and building up next visit is always an option.
How to choose in ten seconds
- "My brows are pale or invisible": tint.
- "My brows are wild, flat or gappy": lamination.
- "Both, honestly": they combine beautifully, and adding a shape as well gives the cleanest result of all.
Both treatments need a patch test at least 24 to 48 hours before your first appointment, no exceptions, even if you've had similar treatments elsewhere. It's a two-minute visit or a dab you do at home, and it keeps the delicate eye area safe.
Where I stand at Beauty Pearl
In the studio I offer brow shaping and tinting, and for a lot of faces that combination is honestly all that's needed: a clean line from the shape, real definition from the tint, ten to fifteen minutes, done. If I look at your brows and think lamination is what would genuinely serve you better, I'll tell you that to your face, because honest advice is the whole point of a one-to-one salon. Bring me your brows and we'll work out the right answer together.
